Installing Additional Connection Files
The EndNote team has developed thousands of different connection files. Because installing all of these files may slow performance, a typical EndNote installation includes only the most popular connection files. You can install sets of connection files by provider with the EndNote Customizer, or you can download individual connection files from the EndNote Web site.
Using the EndNote Customizer to Install Additional Connection Files
Before you begin, make sure no applications are running—including virus protection software and Microsoft Word.
To install sets of connection files:
- Start the EndNote program.
- From the EndNote 2025 menu, select Customizer.
- On the Component Selection dialog, select the components you want to install (or keep installed).
You can select the checkbox next to Connections to install all of the connection files, or you can expand the Connections category in order to select groups of connection files by provider. Any previously selected components that are deselected will be removed. - Click Next to continue with the installation.
The connection files will be copied to the EndNote Connections folder, which is typically //Applications/EndNote 2025/Connections.
You will need to Quit from the EndNote program and then restart EndNote to access the added connection files.
Finding Individual Connection Files on the EndNote Online Site
You can use the Connection Manager in EndNote to find and download individual connection files.
To download individual connection files:
- From the Tools menu in EndNote, select Connection Files, and then select Open Connection Manager.
- Click Get More on the Web to start your default browser and go to the appropriate page on the EndNote site.
- Browse through an alphabetical listing of the available connection files, and download those files you want to install.
- Copy the downloaded files to your Connections folder at //Applications/EndNote 2025/Connections.
