Sharing Pages Documents
Working on Different Computers with Apple Pages
You can directly share your Apple Pages .page files with colleagues.
It is possible to use references from an EndNote library a colleague has shared with you through EndNote Sync, or with a synced copy of your own EndNote library, and more than one library can be open and be searched for citations at the same time. The library, or libraries, must be open in EndNote to be searched from Pages.
If you are inserting citations on only one machine, it is fine to move the document itself to other machines — as long as you will be accessing the document with the same version of Pages.
Moving Documents between Word and Pages
The Apple Pages/EndNote citing feature is fundamentally different from the Cite While You Write tools in Word, and they are not directly compatible.
Microsoft Word to Apple Pages
It is not currently possible to move documents from Microsoft Word to Pages in a way that maintains the link to EndNote. All citations and the bibliography will appear as plain text, with no links at all. If you wanted to change the formatting style, you would need to delete the existing text bibliography and replace every citation.
Apple Pages to Microsoft Word
You can use an EndNote style in Pages that simulates unformatted citations in Word, which would allow you to format the file in Pages then transfer it to Word. This is a one-way transfer and the EndNote library the paper was originally formatted with would be needed, to allow the record numbers to match.
To convert a Pages document for use with Microsoft Word:
- Get a copy of the Pages To Word output style. See this knowledge base article.
- Unzip the downloaded style if your browser is not set to automatically unzip it.
- Double-click on the Pages To Word output style you downloaded to open it in EndNote.
- From the File menu, select Save As.
- Remove "Copy" from the "Pages To Word Copy" file name and save the file.
- From the Tools menu in EndNote, select Output Styles, and then select Open Style Manager.
- In the list of styles find the Pages To Word style and mark the favorites box. Close the Style Manager.
- In Pages, open the document to be sent to Word, and from the Edit menu select EndNote Citations, and then select the Pages to Word style.
- Export the resulting document to Word as you normally would.
- In Word, with the same EndNote library, or libraries, open, select the EndNote style you want to use for the new Word document, then select Configure Bibliography to format the citations in the style of your choice.
